This summer we got a chance to try out the Tinker Crate from KiwiCo. Tinker Crate is ideal for nine to sixteen-year-olds. I was curious to see if my ten-year-old would enjoy the activity as he has already made numerous robotic and STEM-focused toys. We decided to try this out as KiwiCo. focuses on helping young innovators discover and learn about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) through hands-on projects.
We got the hydraulic claw activity, which would help my child learn about hydraulic systems, gases and liquids, and robotics. The box included building instructions, a magazine about hydraulics and all the tools to build the claw.
My kid took about thirty minutes to build the basic claw and then he spent more time building a complex model. He then experimented with different shaped and weighted toys to see what the hydraulic claw would pick and hold. He was engaged throughout the build and in the end, he declared that he would recommend the crate. It was fun and when he got a few bubbles in the syringes, he solved the issue independently, which was interesting to see.
I love how the crate inspires kids to create fun projects and helps them learn at the same time. The box had everything we needed and we did not have to stop mid-project to look for items around the house. The magazine covered even more topics surrounding the claw and is interesting to read.
KiwiCo has five lines underneath its umbrella for kids from age 0 to 16+. The crates cost $19.95 per month, which is quite reasonable for what the box included. The price drops if you commit to the crate for a few months. Best of all, we want our readers to experiment and check out the crate themselves. Click here for 40% off your first month.
