Maestros & The Machines at Mercer Labs

By Anu Kapur, Publisher Lower Manhattan Macaroni KID & UWS Macaroni KID December 7, 2025

If your kids think museums are “boring,” take them to this one - it will change their minds instantly.

Maestros & The Machines at Mercer Labs feels like walking into a classical painting that suddenly comes alive and explodes into color. It’s art, but make it 2025 - bright, moving, surprising, and honestly just really cool.

I was hosted for this review; however, all opinions expressed in this article are entirely my own.

From the moment you step inside, you’re wrapped in light, motion, and sound. Traditional art is reimagined with technology in a way that feels magical instead of high-tech or confusing. My kids were mesmerized, and we felt just as wowed. Each room is different, some calming, some exciting, and you can move at your own pace, which is perfect for curious kids with limited attention spans. The exhibit plays with familiar shapes and masterpieces but turns them into moving digital worlds that make everyone, no matter their age, stop and stare.

Give yourself about an hour to explore. You can go slower if your kids like to really take in the visuals, or breeze through if they're more of the “show me the next thing!” type. This is one of those NYC outings that’s easy, fun, and actually makes kids feel like they learned something without realizing it. There is even a room for kids to color a whimsical animal, which then comes to life on screen.

Bottom line? If you want an art experience that’s creative, immersive, and totally kid-friendly, Maestros & The Machines is absolutely worth the trip.
