Book Review: We Are Family

Recommended for ages 3 - 6 years

My daughter has a new favorite question, “Where is her Daddy (or insert family member here)?” She’s always noticing what grown-ups are with what kids on the playground and is always so curious about where the various family members could be. This question has presented a wonderful opportunity to discuss all of the different ways that a family is created, and this book helps teach just that. 'We are Family', by Patricia Hegarty and Ryan Wheatcroft, is a wonderful book with text about what things families do for each other and with illustrations that follow ten different families through each page. The illustrations showcase families of all types with members of a variety of races, genders, and abilities. I love that my daughter has so many questions, and I love that books like this can help me answer them in such a beautiful way. Families quite simply look like love.
