Looking for something to do these last few weeks of summer with the kids? Here are a few free day trips you can plan today right in New Jersey!
1. The Princeton University Art Museum in Princeton is a free museum showcasing a vast collection of over 90,000 works of modern to ancient art. Your family can partake in several self-guided family activities such as Artful Adventures for children aged 7-12 and Smartkids Gallery Activities for children aged 3 - 8. Children of all ages are bound to find fun during their visit!
2. The Cape May Zoo in Cape May Court House houses more than 500 different animals which is bound to delight all who see these magnificent animals. While entering the zoo is free, donations are accepted to help maintain such a beautiful home for these animals.
3. Commonly known as the Twin Lights, the Navesink Light Station in Highlands will give your children the opportunity to explore the lighthouse culminating in the breathtaking views from the top. Kids will love climbing the staircase to the top and peering down below! There is also a museum and historical relics in the shops below on your way out.
4. Looking to capture some beautiful pictures of your little ones while allowing them to explore to their heart’s content? Head over to the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair where you will have the opportunity to explore 5.5 acres of unparallel botanical gardens where 10,000 plants that represent 3,000 different iris varieties are meticulously maintained.
5. Travel back in time to the early 1900s at Howell Living History Farm, a horse-powered farm where children and adults alike will get a view into an era from yesteryear! Visitors can join in field, barn and craft programs if visiting on Saturday or take self-guided tours any of the other days of the week.
6. A great way to spend a summer evening is by heading to Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in point Pleasant where you can enjoy a free family movie on the beach every Friday. Bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy that saltwater breeze!
