California Grill With Children

California Grill is located in Disney’s Contemporary Resort is known for being one of the finest dining experiences in all of Walt Disney World, but I think a lot of people stray from trying it out because they do not know if it is child-friendly. I don’t believe that at all to be the case with this restaurant and hope you will consider it for your family on your next vacation!

The California Grill is located on the top floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. As with most popular restaurants in Disney, reservations are highly suggested. In order to access the restaurant, you must check-in at the second-floor podium, and the cast members will guide you to a special elevator utilized to reach the restaurant. It is a VIP experience right from the start.

Your first thought as you walk into the restaurant is just how beautiful it is. It is bright with sunshine and very cheerful with a modern “contemporary” feel (bring a sweater, it is very well air-conditioned). You’ll be blown away by the views of Magic Kingdom, stunning!

My children decided on familiar entrees such as pizza and macaroni and cheese and they were happily pleased with them. There was a slight difference to other restaurants in these usual child-friendly meals, a bit more gourmet in nature.

Meanwhile, my husband I were treated to a bona fide gourmet meal. I enjoyed the filet, absolutely delicious!

The desserts are usually the high points of our children’s meals and these were no exception. They all enjoyed dessert sushi, which comes out looking like sushi, but is actually rice crispy treats with Swedish fish and a chocolate dipping sauce. Such a fun way for them to end their night.

By the end of our meal, the sun was starting to set, and we enjoyed watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks right from the outdoor viewing patios, there are two you can choose from. Depending on your table you may even have an amazing view while you eat your meal.

Even if you finish your meal before the fireworks begin you can still enjoy them from the viewing platforms. The restaurant’s policy is that if you have dined in the restaurant earlier in the evening, you can bring your receipt to the second-floor podium, and they will allow you right back up to the viewing patio. You will not be disappointed in the view!

I found California Grill to be very welcoming to my children and while the restaurant did have more adults than children, I found it to be very family-friendly.  If you are considering dining here on your next family vacation with your children, go for it!
