Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CoCo Cay

By Jade Monzo, Owner, Rope Drop Travel October 22, 2019

If you’re looking for one of the best private islands offered in the Bahamas, look no further than Royal Caribbean’s brand new private island which opened May of this year. The cruise line’s $200 million dollar renovation to this island certainly did not disappoint.

The private dock at the entrance of the island allows for two of Royal Caribbean’s fleet to dock at any time given time and while there are activities you can partake in that do come at a fee, the majority of the island is completely free to all guests. I didn’t spend one dollar on my last trip there!

Here are some tips for how to make this truly your “Perfect Day.”

All you’ll need to remember to bring with you are your Sea Pass Card, sun protection, closed-toe shoes (if you plan on riding the Zip Line) and cash (if you plan on shopping the island market for local crafts). You will be offered free beach towels as you exit the ship and you can exchange them onshore for new ones if they become wet.

There are tons of amenities throughout the island. Trams circle the island so you won’t need to worry about walking if you don’t want to. Umbrellas, chairs on beaches and by pools, and lockers are complimentary. You’ll also find that the onboard internet packages work on the island!

Almost everything on this island is complimentary including Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill’s Galleon for your younger thrill-seekers, the many different coves of the Caribbean’s’ largest freshwater pool- Oasis Lagoon, and your free beach access at Chill Island.

While your day will be filled without it, if you’d like to splurge a bit there is, even more, to entertain yourself with. Thrill Waterpark boasts a thirteen slide waterpark and while it does come with a minimal cost to enjoy, you can play all day! Head over to Chill Island where you can rent kayaks and snorkeling gear. And if the weather is great with no wind, you can take a flight on Up, Up and Away, CoCo Cay’s own hot air balloon!

One of the main questions I get asked by clients is “tell me about my dining options and what food will cost on the island.”  The answer to that is simple, THREE different dining options and they’re all FREE. You can dine at Snack Shack (where you must get the “Shack Burger”), Chill Grill and Skipper’s Grill. Better yet, your onboard beverage packages work on the island!

Probably my two favorite things about this private island are the many crew members walking around asking if you needed help at any given time, it makes for a true VIP experience, and the minimum of hundred lifeguards they have at any given point. With small children, I felt incredibly safe with the amount of water professional supervision.

This island is a must visit on your next Royal Caribbean cruise. You won’t be disappointed!
