Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort Review

By Jade Monzo, Owner, Rope Drop Travel March 5, 2020

With lush landscaping and exotically styled buildings, you’ll find this resort which is themed around the Polynesian Islands to be like stepping right into a tropical paradise!

With its convenience of being on the monorail loop, taking you directly to Magic Kingdom and also Epcot, via a transfer monorail, there aren’t many resorts that can boast of this amazing location. Families with young children will want to consider this for their Disney vacation stay for the ease of traveling throughout most of Disney World while staying here. Strollers are easily taken on and off the monorail and at the end of a long day it’s an easy return to your Disney “home” that even your most tired children will find a breeze.

The Great Ceremonial House, or main building, is where guests first arrive to check-in. After crossing over a bridge (look to your right for the beautiful waterfall!) you are greeted with a lei and a grand welcome from your O’hana.

All standard rooms at the Polynesian Village Resort measure 415 square feet and sleep five guests on two queen beds and a sofa bed. These rooms are among the largest in Disney World! For your comfort, the room also boasts a desk with chair, chair and ottoman, mini-fridge, tv/dresser, a coffee maker and two closets.

You will find this resort to be home to three table service restaurants which are all on the Disney Dining Plan. O’hana has amazing views and your favorite Disney characters at breakfast, all dressed in Polynesian garb! Dinner does not have a character experience but makes up for it with its amazing meal selection. Servers bring meat spits continually to your table and carve your meat fresh as you eat. Kona Café is located next door to O’hana and has a tropical-themed menu. For two table service credits, you can enjoy The Spirit of Aloha, a luau that packs hula dancing and even flame twirling!

For your dining pleasure, you will also find two quick-service restaurants, also on all dining plans, at this resort; Captain Cook’s and the Oasis Bar and Grill located at the Oasis Pool.

Make sure you take the time to check out the favorite bar by many on Disney property, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. Children are welcome during the day but evening hours, only those 21 and over are welcome to venture inside.

While the ambiance, rooms and dining are impeccable, our families’ two favorite amenities at this resort are the pool and Lilo’s Playhouse. The Oasis Pool has zero-entry so even your infants and toddlers can play in the water while your older children swim under the waterfall or head down the slide! Children can also have a major good time in the large kids’ play area which has two slides and tons of water features.

If you’re looking for a little downtime or it’s a rainy day, you’ll have Lilo’s Playhouse to keep your children entertained. With five separate areas, all Disney-themed, of course, children of all ages will find something to do. From video games, movies, board games, books, building blocks, pretend play, and so much more your kids will never want to leave this playhouse or this resort!
