It’s SHOW TIME!

By Spotlight Kids NY December 11, 2019

Well, it’s the time of year for end of year parties, events, school performances and reviewing all of your child’s hard work from the year. At Spotlight Kids NY, we hold full-on performances each semester, getting each child stage ready to debut their performance. What is so amazing, that in 14 weeks, each child has had the opportunity to learn lines, songs, dance routines, participated in designing their costume, and building props. Each child in the studio has touched every aspect of the show. So it’s not just about the performance, it’s about learning all about the show. We are all a team, and we work together to make the show special for everyone.

Behind the scenes, as children's nerves are on the rise and their excitement is even higher, we are reminding them, to make a promise. To promise to practice their lines, to work on their character development, to be prepared for classes, to support their classmates and above all to HAVE FUN!

A lot goes into making a show, making sure the stage is safe, sound is on, lighting is qued and backstage support is set. At Spotlight Kids NY, we use a real theater. Not the studio, and not the school's auditorium. We partner with Soho Playhouse on Vandam St, giving the kids the real feel of a New York City theater and stage. As we prepare for the show, each child is ushered to the basement for hair/makeup/dress. The hallway is dim and the staircase is narrow. But as we make our way to the back of the stage, each child is in awe of the experience. Just giving your child the experience to know what it feels like to be escorted down the same hallway and staircase, as many aspirating actors and actresses in NYC. The rawness and realistic feel of the experience is enough to keep the kids engaged and excited.

Then we set foot on stage, and it's SHOWTIME! All they have learned and practiced in 14 weeks, standing on stage while family and loved ones are watching. It’s an empowering moment. To feel confident in their voice and in their body and know that they are on stage and working towards something bigger; Self-Confidence, Self Development, Empowerment and a Love for Theater and Art.

Spotlight Kids NY has two big recitals a year. Fall/December to highlight all a child’s work in their first semester and again in Spring/May, with new shows and themes. To give each child the visibility to truly own their character and to feel confident to set foot on stage, is what it is all about. Our teaching artists and staff are excited to showcase each child and make the experience unique and special. We are happy to share in their moment of stardom. The smiles, laughter and excitement are enough to make you want to do it again!

SCHOOLS OUT, SLK IS IN! Let your child’s imagination run free. Spotlight Kids NY (SLK) offers classes for kids to explore their creative side through imaginative play. Kids learn to build confidence through character building, improv skits, and line memorization. They participate in all aspects of what goes on behind the stage including set design, crafting props, and designing their own costumes. SLK also offers camps and workshops. SLK provides all supplies for your child to create a mini showcase filled with dancing, musical numbers, crafting props and designing headpieces. Meet Tamryn Shami and Danielle Burakovsky, co-founders of SLK HERE.
