Top Nine Free Walt Disney World Resort Activities

By Jade Monzo, Owner, Rope Drop Travel October 3, 2020

Many guests visiting Walt Disney World don’t realize just how much there is to do outside of the theme parks! Besides these top nine ideas make sure to check with your own resort’s front desk for available free activities, such as poolside activities and games and movie nights.

1. If you have a Tuesday or Thursday night free head over to Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside for Trivia Night where prizes such as free carriage rides and fishing tours are awarded to winners!

2. Our family's favorite spot for musical entertainment is Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa where you can catch the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra playing ragtime, Dixie, jazz and of course - Disney tunes.

3. Many resorts offer seasonal cookie decorating but if you are not traveling during the holidays head over to Boma, which offers cookie decorating year-round for free.

4. Many of the moderate and deluxe resorts offer tours giving all sorts of fun facts and history. Check with your front desk upon arrival for what your resort offers.

5. Your family won’t want to miss the evening sing-along and marshmallow roast with Chip ‘n Dale at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground! You can either bring your own marshmallows to roast or purchase them at the resort.

6. Didn’t get your fill of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort with marshmallow roasting? Consider spending a whole day here! You can journey in their woodlands to see animals roaming like deer, rabbits and ducks, try your hand at archery, or check out the on-site petting zoo. Also, enjoy pony rides or carriage rides for a nominal fee.

7. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort offers free drawing classes daily at 11am, 2pm, and 5pm. Make sure to check with the front desk to confirm the time is still the same that day as occasionally they have to move it around to accommodate something else.

8. One of our family's favorite things to do is to head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge once it’s gotten dark where you can view the animals in their natural habitat at night. Stop by the front desk upon arrival and ask where the location is where you will be given a free pair of night vision goggles to see in the dark. My kids just think this is the coolest experience!

9. Find the kid-sized chairs!  Every resort has a kids’ area in their lobbies with kids sized furniture. It seems like such a silly thing, but one of my children's favorite pastimes is relaxing in their own custom-sized furniture while they spend a few minutes watching the Disney cartoons on the tv. It’s a nice reprieve for Mom and Dad too!
