The Top 10 Best Family Rides in Magic Kingdom

By Jade Monzo, Owner, Rope Drop Travel February 4, 2020

I get asked a lot by clients which rides can their whole family go on in Magic Kingdom? And the answer to that is almost all of them! Magic Kingdom prides itself on being a family park which means that almost every ride does not have a height requirement and welcomes all guests. Here are our families’ top ten rides when we visit, suitable for all ages!

1. It’s A Small World: This one, of course, is a fan favorite and an original ride so it’s a must-do on any visit! You’ll board a boat that floats on a set track throughout the ride. Sitting up to four people comfortably across, every member will enjoy this ride, and you’ll be sure to be humming the theme song for the rest of the day!

2. Under The Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid: Up to three members of your party will board a clamshell and head under the sea with Ariel and friends. Always a crowd-pleaser with all ages!

3. Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover: This is my husbands’ favorite ride! You’ll board a moving “vehicle” which takes you inside some of Magic Kingdom’s coolest rides like Space Mountain. TIP: It’ll be completely black when you go through so make sure you hold your little ones tight!

4. Peter Pan's Flight: To start, make sure you obtain a Fastpass in advance for this ride if you want to ride. With a cult-like following, the line is usually a minimum of an hour wait. You’ll set sail and “fly” with Peter Pan as you head to Neverland with up to three people fitting aboard the “ship” with one infant on your lap.

5. Haunted Mansion: Many may think this is too spooky for little ones, but this is always one of our children’s favorites. Up to three can board the “dune buggy” which moves you through the many fun, not so scary scenes. As it’s dark and cool throughout the ride, you’ll find your babies and toddlers usually take a cat nap, allowing Mom and Dad to enjoy the fun.

6. Jungle Cruise: For a fun change of pace, your whole family can board a board that is on track, the boat will have you with other guests as well, fitting about 20-25 people on each boat ride. Our babies have sat in my lap feeling the breeze as my older ones have been regaled with the hysterics of our boat driver - they always have great jokes!

7. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: This is usually the first ride we always hit as a family in Magic Kingdom as arriving first thing in the morning you will walk right on this ride. Aboard your “honey pot” you’ll bounce around with Winnie and his crew.  So much fun!

8. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: Many would think not all members of your party can ride on this as it’s really geared towards older children, but babies can ride too! Just hold them a little extra tight during those fun spinning moments!

9. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress: My personal favorite show in Magic Kingdom and always our families’ go-to for later in the afternoon when we need a bit of a reprieve. Bring your babies’ bottles and almost all little ones are guaranteed to have a 20-minute nap as your older ones can relax and watch this intriguing look at our nation’s progress over the past 100 years.

10. Pirates of the Caribbean: This is probably the ride I get asked about most often if it’s ok for babies to go on and the answer is yes! We’ve taken most of our little ones on as young as three months old. You’ll board a boat up to three across with a baby on your lap. While the ride itself is pretty easy, there is one slight drop. Not big enough to even warrant Disney installing seat belts to be worn but you’ll want to make sure you hold your tiniest ones a bit close for it. In our family, once you’ve done this ride, you’re officially a Disney kid!!
