Ever so often a book we read really gets my daughter. It becomes not only a book she requests but also a story she’ll recall throughout the day. ‘Jabari Jumps’, is our most recent book obsession. In the story, Jabari is heading to the town pool with his dad and sister, and this is the day that Jabari is ready to jump off the diving board. It might just take a little bit of guts and some encouragement from Dad to get him there. I always love a story that highlights the relationship between a father and a child. My husband is the light of my daughter's eye but so often in children's books it's a mom who gets representation. With 'Jabari Jumps' we're being shown a family of color, and a father's relationship with his kids, which are two things I think we should see more of in children's literature. Add in the story of a little boy being brave and this is a great addition to our bookshelves!
