Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort Review

By Jade Monzo, Owner, Rope Drop Travel September 15, 2020

Nestled on their own private island in Hilton Head, South Carolina, you will find the serene Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort. The beauty and nature to be had at this resort are unsurpassed and guests are sure to leave rejuvenated after spending their vacation here.

As a Disney Vacation Club resort, many guests are DVC owners, but non-owners can make reservations as well and plan to stay at one of their studios, or a one- or two-bedroom villa. While the one- or two-bedroom rooms have full kitchens, all rooms are appointed with housekeeping luxuries such as vacuum cleaners, dish drains, and wet sinks; lending even more to the feel of your “home away from home.”

While acclaimed as a resort to truly relax, you will find many chances throughout the resort to really connect with nature and your family. Hammocks, a playground, and even small putting greens that allow even your littlest ones an opportunity to get in on the chance to try their hand at golf. You’ll also find Corn-hole and Bocce Ball courts. Guests can also rent fishing poles and crab nets and try their luck at catching a fish or some of the many crabs.

Upon check-in, make sure you peruse the daily itinerary guide your cast member will give you. Disney offers a plethora of activities, both that have a fee and those that are free for guests. Activities such as tie-dye t-shirt making come with a nominal fee, but there are things to do such as guided nature walks that are free with your resort stay. Even if you don’t take a nature class, make sure you walk through Disney’s Butterfly Garden during your stay as you’re sure to be captivated by the beautiful monarch butterflies that flutter throughout stopping on the beautiful flowers.

Looking for a little more physical activity? Disney offers bike rentals daily or for the length of your stay. They offer any style of bike rental from tandem, bikes with training wheels, bikes with child seats, and even adults’ bikes that pull small bike trailers behind them where up to three small children can enjoy the ride! Helmets are included with your rental. Renting a bike gives you an amazing opportunity to really see the beauty this island has to offer as there are over sixty miles of bike trails throughout Hilton Head Island!

Both children and adults will love the resort’s swimming pool which boasts of a slide and small children’s pool and hot tub. Make sure you receive an itinerary as there will be times and information about poolside activities where all who play have the opportunity to win prizes. Don’t miss the Goofy Bingo!

While the resort only has one quick-service dining option, Tide Me Over, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; there are a few sit-down restaurants within walking distance of the resort, only about a five or ten-minute walk from your room right over the bridge from Disney’s private island to the main island.

About 1.5 miles away, you will find Disney’s Beach House, a private beach club and beach. While all beaches are public, Disney’s Beach House and access to the beach are reserved strictly for resort guests. Guests of the resort can utilize continuous shuttles back and forth from the resort to the Beach House daily from 10 am - 5 pm. Disney’s Beach House boasts a beautiful pool and a quick-service dining location, Signals Seaside Grill.

On the beach, you will have the opportunity to rent both umbrellas and beach chairs that will be set up for you, leaving you the freedom to not worry about carting anything to the beach except those buckets and pails for sandcastle making!

While this may not be the typical Disney vacation you’d think of, if you’re looking for a more laid back, beach vacation option that still has that Disney feel and top-notch customer service that you are accustomed to with Disney, then you will have the time of your life at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort!
