To Do: "Me Time" Today

By Sweta Shah Sakhpara, Founder, PranaWorks October 5, 2020

It’s been about six months of quarantine for some of us... while for some, even longer... six months of being cooped up, of being the sole go-to person for everything, and of being always ON. None of us is the Energizer Bunny, in my humble opinion.

A reader asked me to write about how exactly she should set aside some “me time” for herself when she is looked up to as the Omnipresent, Omniscient one but not an Omnipotent one (yet)?! [For reference, OmniPotent ones are powerful, they can do whatever they want a.k.a take breaks for some “me time”]

My answer to this is - a TO DO LIST and one of the to-dos on that list will be, “Take time for yourself NOW”.

Written exactly like that. NOW in capital letters.

Take small time frames, start with maybe ten minutes, if you are indispensable for any more time than that.

Multiple times a day is okay. You know your schedule best.. so you decide.

Display the to-do list in such a way that everyone sees it, if needed.

Talk to your family about this new to-do item on the list, if needed.

You’ll be surprised that your family will be more than happy to give you those ten minutes so that you come back to them refreshed!

What would you do in those ten minutes? I don’t know.. so many things come to mind...

Meditate..!!?? Lol.. just kidding...  only rarely do people get excited about this one!

Paint your nails - get the express finish nail colour though... don’t have all day to wait for it dry out! So much to do and only so much “me time” after all!

Take a second (or the first) shower, maybe?

Zone out and stare at a wall...

Basically, do whatever your heart tells you to do and if your heart says, print this homework sheet for Thing One, or Thing Two needs this ready tomorrow or Thing Sr. might need help dealing with Thing One and Thing Two (plus how many Things you have made)... please, just tell your heart to ZIP IT UP?!!!

Because, it’s ME time... be selfish... the world will not stop because you hit pause for a few minutes!

A pause every now and then is better than a full stop, yeah? 🙏🏽🙏🏽
