Beauty Trend Inspiration for Fall & Winter

By Sara Niec Carnahan, Founder, Sara N.C. Beauty September 12, 2021

It’s probably been a while since you busted out your blush brushes and lip color, but if the changing weather has you wanting to play with some fall makeup looks, I don’t blame you. Even under normal circumstances, summer is usually about less-is-more makeup, and the pandemic has basically wiped out any desire to get all dolled up. But after months of embracing our makeup-free selves, we’re finally ready to have some fun with makeup again. As times change, so do our beauty habits.

Obviously, 2020 brought it unexpectedly to a different level. I think it’s safe to say that for a while, we will bring the focus to our eyes as we wear a mask. But glowy skin is always in style! It is ironic that this is a "trends" article because I personally don't believe makeup has ever been about following the rules. More so than ever before, it's about embracing experimentation and simply doing you. Rockin your fresh, natural look, wear that bright lipstick color, try that bold liner, wear crystals, and glitter when you feel like it. Why? Because you can! Because it’s fun!!

Here are some top trends that can give you a little inspiration on how to change up your daily routine:

Glass Skin

One of my favorite trends that is here to stay is glowing, glass skin, which you can achieve by slathering a mixture of moisturizers, cream highlighters, and oils to beam your face up to achieve the perfect glowy look.

Pro Tip: Make sure to only use setting powders in certain areas on the face, so your skin doesn’t look too oily.

Fresh skin with an accent inner-corners

A little bit of color goes a long way. Keep your makeup fresh by focusing on clean skin and a neutral eye. To keep your skin fresh and glossy, prep with primer and foundation for a flawless finish. Then, add a pop of color to the inner corners of your eyes. Adding color in the tear duct of your eyes is just enough edge to make your makeup pop.

Feathered, Fluffy Brows

R.I.P. to the days of drawing on your brows like your life depends on it. Embracing undone, lived-in, full brows is the wave now. Brows are starting to look more like brows and less like cartoons. People are getting into the groove of using brow pens to mimic their natural hair with beautiful shapes.

Glitters and Crystals

Woah Woah, Glitters, and what? I know I jumped right into the bold, a not very subtle trend, but try to add a pop of glitter or even some crystals to your eye look. You might be surprised how easy and fun your makeup turns out! Simply brush or press glitter shadow over your lids.

Floating Eyeliner

Instead of traditional black eyeliner looks, try floating liner or bright colors. To create the best eyeliner shade you've ever dreamed of, all you need is a white eyeliner pencil and a sharp-angled brush. Gently press a bright eyeshadow into the shape you create with an eyeshadow color of your choice.

Pop of Color

From monochromatic 2019 we jumped into colorful 2020. Whether it’s pairing a blue eyeshadow with an orange lip or using a popping green shadow with a pink blush, try having more fun with color. For a while, people were scared to use color. I’ve always loved the color, and I love that everyone is starting to embrace it more. Whether it’s a pop of color on the eyes or a bare/ natural look and a bright lip, it’s makeup! It’s supposed to be fun yet gorgeous!

Negative Space

There’s only so much warm, bronzey textbook glam we can look at daily. Negative space just means leaving part of the eye unpainted. Usually, it’s the lid with a bold cut crease. But you can try all kinds of shapes, lines, and colors. 2020 is all about stepping out of your comfort zone and getting creative.

Blown-Out Blush

Try wearing popping blush in pinks and corals to make a statement. And not just on the apples of the cheeks, but also high on the cheeks, into the temples, and diffusing into the eyeshadow.

Less Powder, More Dew

We are evolving from powder products, which are still good for certain things, to more beautiful, creamy, dewy skin. Skin is in, honey!!!
