Meet Claudine Williams from Claudine Williams Photography

NYC Photographer

By Anu Kapur, Publisher, Lower Manhattan Macaroni Kid November 9, 2020

Claudine, tell us a little about yourself. Are you a native New Yorker?

I am a native Philadelphian, but have been living in New York since 2008. I am married and have one middle school-aged son. We live in Battery Park City and love being close to lots of green space. This is especially good for me because I love birding in my spare time.

When did you first realize you were interested in photography? Do you have any formal training in photography?

I first became interested in photography when I was in eighth grade. My parents gave me my first camera, a 35mm red Canon. I loved taking pictures during trips and of my friends.

My training is a combination of courses taken at The International Center of Photography, Clickin Moms, weekend courses with Felix Kunz, many online tutorials and reading my manual and other photography books.

How long have you been a photographer? What is your favorite thing about being a photographer?

I’ve been a “photographer” for as long as I can remember but I didn’t make the jump to a professional photographer (one that gets paid for their work) until 2014.

My favorite thing about being a photographer is capturing a moment in time, and telling a story.

How do you make your clients feel relaxed?

I like to talk to my clients about their job/business, hobbies, and their families. I try to keep the conversation going so they feel relaxed and forget that they are being photographed. I try to make things light and fun! I also give them gentle direction so they know how to move their body in a way that looks good on camera.

What type of photography sessions do you offer? What style(s) do you specialize in?

I offer small business and corporates on-site branding and portrait sessions, and editorial portraits to accompany a story. I specialize in portrait and lifestyle photography.

During my personal time, I enjoy working on still life photography and shooting street and travel.

Do you advise your clients on what to wear for the photoshoot?

I offer advice on what to wear, if the client wants it.

What is your favorite photo location in New York City?

There are so many great photo locations in NYC. It’s hard to pick one! I love the quaint streets of Tribeca and the Seaport, the beauty of Central Park and the hustle-bustle of Times Square. It all depends on what the client is looking for!

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love spending time with my family, watching my son play sports, date night with my husband, exercising and birding.

What tips or advice do you have for aspiring photographers?

Figure out your style and photograph what you love. Practice, practice, practice and show your work to as many people as you can. Have fun!

What is the best way to reach you?
