Tunnels and Lights

COVID-19 and Anxiety

By Sweta Shah Sakhpara, Founder, PranaWorks November 24, 2020

COVID-19 anxiety is real.

Isolation is scary, it’s depressing and makes us think weak thoughts.

But.. we have the power to turn it around within us!

Now, I am not saying it’s a switch and you just need to turn it on.. nope.

And no, it’s not as if you get one negative thought and you are able to turn it around or spin it to be positive... That’s not how it works. If you are able to do that, congratulations, you are not depressed!

The whole process of identifying a negative thought, letting it take form and exist. And then having the mental stamina to push that thought away and replace it with nothingness... THAT takes so much practice.

Please remember, I said, replace with nothingness (for now). Not with positive thoughts. (That happens later)

This process will need patience and resilience from your side more than anything else.

It IS a mental labor-intensive, repetitive process. But it is possible.

How? By being like a child.

Here is why...

Children are mindful about how they feel with people, in situations, etc. I love the fact that children, in their innocence, have no concept of “proper behavior”. They don’t like what’s going on, they say it. They throw tantrums and they throw things.

But they forgive and forget just as easily.

We need to be more like them. If we don’t like something, speak up!

We still don’t like it.. throw a tantrum.

Regardless of how you choose to deal with it.. Be real. Be honest. Just be.

So we have a few weak thoughts that are making us worry..? That’s fine. But don’t let that consume you. Allow it to pass... breathe and let go... know in your heart that good times are getting closer... there is always a light, however faint, at the end of the tunnel. Walk towards it, at your own pace. With or without anyone else by your side. Your body and your heart are always with you. Be mindful of that fact. You are your own okay person. Be patient. And focus on that light as it gets brighter and closer than ever before!
