Meet Danielle Terenzio from Danielle Terenzio Photography

NYC Photographer

By Anu Kapur, Publisher, Lower Manhattan Macaroni Kid December 1, 2020

Danielle, tell us a little about yourself. Are you a native New Yorker?

Native Floridian here, but after living in NYC for almost thirteen years the title New Yorker definitely feels earned!

When did you first realize you were interested in photography? Do you have any formal training in photography?

I took my first photography course when I was nineteen and immediately fell in love with the medium. Shortly after, I moved to New York City in 2008 to pursue a BFA in Photography from The Fashion Institute of Technology where I graduated in 2012.

How long have you been a photographer? What is your favorite thing about being a photographer?

I love the storytelling aspect of photography. As an avid people watcher, photography became a tool early in my career that allowed me to approach people on the street that I found interesting. My favorite part of being a family photographer is documenting the growth and expansion of my families.

How do you make your clients feel relaxed?

Most people don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. Heck, I don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera! That said, capturing your family's growth is important even if it feels a little awkward at first. I try to get every client on a phone call before I send a contract. I think it’s a much nicer way to connect rather than going back and forth via email. It also establishes a relationship with the family before we meet which makes things easier the day of our shoot. Additionally, I always remind my families that kids are kids. If their little one needs a break we’ll take it, and if their little one is having a hard time we’ll wait it out.

What type of photography sessions do you offer? What style(s) do you specialize in?

I specialize in Family and Lifestyle Photography.

Do you advise your clients on what to wear for the photoshoot?

I typically suggest cool and airy earth tones during the Spring and Summer and warmer earth tones during the winter months. But honestly, I tell my clients to wear whatever they feel beautiful and comfortable in.

What is your favorite photo location in New York City?

I like photographing my families in locations that are meaningful to them. We usually begin our session at home then walk to a nearby park or playground. Every neighborhood and park in this city is unique and beautiful!

For outdoor shoots, which is your favorite season?

Late Spring and Early Fall.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love to travel.

What tips or advice do you have for aspiring photographers?

Shoot as much as possible and stay curious!
