Recently, I was asked, why do I always write about taking a break or being kind to our own selves? Am I teaching everyone to be selfish?
First, I am not teaching.
Second, remember the advice we get on planes - in case of emergencies? Put your mask on first before assisting others.
If you are not safe, how will you save someone else?
If you are not kind to yourself, how will you know how to show it to others?
If you aren’t happy yourself, how will you be a reason for someone else’s happiness?
You can't pour from an empty cup!
If you are running on empty, how will you act with empathy?
And that is why...
Breathe.
Be kind.. to yourself first.
Care.. for your emotional balance first.
Love.. your heart should beat for you first.
Smile.. at yourself first...
And make it a habit. You won’t even realize when your cup begins to flow over.. and when you begin to flow into others‘ lives with so much kindness, care, love and laughter.
It’s a fun experiment too. For those of us who still are not on board, please do experiment.. what’s to lose?
From where I am, you only stand to gain... yourself first.
