For New Yorkers it’s always fun to flip through a picture book and see their own city reflected in the illustrations. It’s especially fun when you can do it while learning about a New York-born turned famous performer. In this book, we read the story of Sonny Rollins as a teenager making a name for himself. The music is in his soul, and he is guided by the rhythm wherever he goes. In fact, the illustrations show how a song is lifting all the city, the bridge, train cars, and people. The story is interesting and told in poetic form deserving to be read aloud. The illustrations are stunning and will have adults and children glancing over every part of the page. It’s time to pull out your music player and stream some jazz and then request this book from your local library.
