Easter is just around the corner, which means it’s time for Easter crafts! Salt painting is such a fun and magical way for kids to create artwork, which is why we decided to do it in celebration of this holiday.
My kids and I made Easter eggs and an Easter bunny, but let your kids get creative! They can create any design they want. They’ll be amazed at how the paint magically moves in both directions once it touches the salt!
Supplies:
- salt
- glue
- watercolor paper or cardstock
- watercolors
- paint brushes
- pencil
Step 1: Draw your design on a piece of watercolor paper or cardstock. Then, trace your design with glue.
Step 2: Cover your design with salt, then shake off the excess.
Step 3: Dip your paintbrush in watercolor and gently touch the salt. Repeat until the entire design is colored.
Notes:
- Watercolor paper works best to absorb the extra liquid, but cardstock will work if you don’t have it on hand.
- If you’re doing this project with a toddler, they probably won’t be able to “gently" touch the salt with their paintbrush. In this case, letting the salt and glue completely dry before adding the watercolor is best.
- If you don’t have watercolors at home, use some food coloring mixed with water instead.
