Coffee Filter Butterflies

By LeeAnne, Creator, Raising Veggie Lovers June 1, 2022

Summer is just around the corner, which is the peak butterfly season! Celebrate the sunshine and warm weather by making these cute coffee filter butterflies with your kids. These butterflies are fun and easy to make…all you need are a few common supplies and a little creativity to get started!

Supplies:

• 2 coffee filters

• washable markers

• 1 cotton ball

• 1 pipe cleaner

• scissors

Step 1: Use the washable markers to create a design on the coffee filters. Be creative!

Step 2: Run the cotton ball under water, then squeeze out some of the excess. It should be wet, but not dripping. Dab the cotton ball all over the coffee filters to moisten them, causing the colors to bleed together. Let the coffee filters dry completely.

Step 3: Accordion fold both coffee filters (fold a small strip, flip it over and fold another strip of the same width, then repeat these steps).

Step 4: Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Then, stack the folded coffee filters together and secure them in the center with the pipe cleaner (twist it a few times).

Step 5: Fan out each section of the coffee filters so it looks like a butterfly. Then, twist the ends of the pipe cleaners to create the antennas.
