An Intro to SimplifyNYC

Your Home. Your Life.

By Caleb Dicke and Cole Burden, Co-Founders of SimplifyNYC July 5, 2022

Hello. We are Caleb and Cole. We are partners in SimplifyNYC, and also in life! About two years ago, Macaroni KID did an interview with us. We were just getting started, and some of you may have even become our valued clients. We are so excited to be back with our own guide.

The two of us met as performers in theatre, began dating, and discovered that we did “domestic” really well together. Both of our spaces were always clean and organized. After three years, we saw a real opportunity to create a business. Our vision for creating the name needed to reach beyond just cleaning and organizing. We wanted to introduce and share a lifestyle with other New Yorkers, so we created SimplifyNYC.

Here is what we know about a Simplified home; it just feels really good. We can tell you about our personal history with too much “stuff”, and how we became knowledgeable enough to believe we could help others. We can give you examples, and some stories of working with clients that we believe will inspire you. We can invite you into our own home and share how imperfect we are, ourselves, at this task. First and foremost, we want to emphasize that taking a look at what you have accumulated over time, re-acquainting yourself with it, deciding if it goes or stays, and clearing space in your home, and thus in your mind, just feels really darn refreshing! It might even feel like you gain some much-needed clarity and may even change your life.

We are not here to give you a ton of rules or how-to’s. The task of decluttering and staying organized is deeply personal to each individual and their space. Pushing rules would be like putting you on a diet and doing a weigh-in every week. If that has worked for you in the past, then good for you! In our experience, a “quick fix” may work in the moment, but it does not create good habits that last forever. We want to give you tools so you can create your own process, and we plan to do that by simply sharing what is working for us.

Something that we will absolutely discuss is, “Where does this stuff come from?” It is certainly not only from Amazon or the checkout aisle at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. We can tell you that like many traits, our stuff finds us from generations before us; our parents and grandparents. Early on, we noticed that we wanted to hold on to things for sentimental reasons or simply because it was what we knew how to do, and not necessarily because it was what we wanted to do. That being said, if you want to read a guide that is going to tell you where to get great boxes to organize things in your closet, or creative ways to hide things under your bed, we don't recommend reading our guide. If you want to actually take a look at your relationship with your things, and make real changes in your life, then stay right here. We can’t wait to get to know you!
