Show Grace

By Sweta Shah Sakhpara, Founder, PranaWorks November 21, 2023

Why do some people assume that only their experiences are valid while dismissing others' perspectives? Why does it have to be a competition? Both experiences can be true and real. Have you ever felt like your experiences were not acknowledged? It can be humbling to realize that someone else's experience is just as valid as your own. Even if you don't agree, both experiences are equally important.

I have been in situations where my experiences have been negated - outright. No consideration was given to the fact that I did go through it and that it was real or that I was telling the truth.

I have caught myself being on the other end too. I’ve caught myself starting to negate someone else’s experiences and stopped myself just in time - I was able to step back and let them have their moment and I'm glad I did that. It was such a humbling feeling when the realization hit - that someone felt validated in their experience.

So what if I don’t concur? So what if my experience wasn’t the exact same as yours? Mine wasn’t any less than yours nor was it any more. I am going to try and show grace on a more regular basis. Listen more and talk less. Accept more and negate less.

It's important to try to be more understanding and accepting. It's a process, and we may stumble, but it's worth trying. I will fail, I will flounder but I will try. I hope you will too.
