Today's society is characterized by a constant sense of hurry. We are all constantly running. Gulping down water, inhaling breakfast, rushing through traffic, constantly stressed.. what’s the rush?! Why the constant fast pace in life? Exactly what is it that you are rushing for or rushing towards? What is it that will get left behind if you don’t reach there faster? What is it that you are constantly worried about missing out?
Filling your day with activities after activities in an hour-by-hour slot? The kids are way too busy with school, and then after-school classes, dance, music, and gymnastics. Why? What are we so afraid of that we feel the need to schedule every moment of our lives?
Why does it feel like twenty-four hours are just not enough anymore? AI is here, apps on the phone for everything - shouldn’t that alone take off a load off your shoulders? When do we just sit? Just breathe? Just be? When was the last time you made a sand castle? Or a paper boat? Or just walked aimlessly in the rain?
When did this start to feel like time wasted? Did you just skim through this whole article in under 2 minutes? Why not take a deep breath and start reading it again? Hmm... try?
Today’s takeaway from this rumination, I hope, is that you pick one activity that used to bring joy to you and MAKE the time to do it again.
I am off to walk barefoot on the sand. ❤️🙏
