Description
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is celebrating Black History Month all February long with interactive, hands-on activities that teach children about the culture of the Harlem Renaissance, a golden age of African American culture.
CMOM’s programs, which run from Tuesday, January 31 to Sunday, February 26, will introduce young visitors to influential Black artists who and advanced ideas for a changing world.
Movers & Shakers: Dance the Lindy Hop
Join us as we dance with a partner and to the music for a good ol’ time! With footwork borrowed from the Charleston and tap, the Lindy Hop is a cultural phenomenon that broke through race barriers.

The Harlem Renaissance, a golden age in African American culture, was a period of rich artistic activity. Literature, music, stage performance, and art erupted from the 1910s to the mid-1930s. Artists proclaimed pride in Black life and identity, shared the truths of inequality, and shared their ideas for the changing modern world.
